2017 – Juliana Troch

Deciphering low-δ¹⁸O rhyolite genesis in Yellowstone: Beate Mocek Award presented to Juliana Troch for oxygen isotope micro-analysis of volcanic systems.

The Beate Mocek Award is dedicated to supporting mineralogical research by early-career female scientists, particularly in the fields of petrology and geochemistry. This year, the award is presented to Juliana Troch (ETH Zurich).

Juliana's research focuses on igneous petrology and geochemistry. In her doctoral research, she investigates the processes responsible for the development of low δ¹⁸O values in rhyolites from the central Snake River Plain of the Yellowstone volcanic field (USA). The prize money will support oxygen isotope analyses of her samples using the laser fluorination method at the Stable Isotope Laboratory of the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
