The German Mineralogical Society –Connecting the Mineralogical Community

The German Mineralogical Society (DMG) is the scientific society for mineralogy in Germany. It brings together researchers, students, and professionals from across the mineralogical sciences, providing a shared forum for scientific exchange and collaboration.

As a non-profit scientific society, the DMG promotes research and education across all areas of mineralogy. It supports early-career scientists, strengthens connections within the scientific community, and represents the scientific and institutional interests of mineralogy in dialogue with the public and public authorities.

Connecting Science
Conferences, workshops, and field trips create opportunities for scientific exchange and new collaborations.

Supporting Early-Career Scientists
Courses, conference opportunities, and other funding and support programmes help students and researchers in the early stages of their careers.

Sharing Knowledge
The DMG promotes mineralogical education and communicates current research within the scientific community and beyond.

Representing Mineralogy
As a scientific society, the DMG represents the perspectives and interests of the mineralogical sciences in national and international networks.

The scientific diversity of the DMG is reflected in its Sections and Working Groups. They bring together members with shared scientific interests, initiate events and projects, and actively contribute to shaping the Society’s activities. The YoungMineralogists (YoungMins) represent and connect early-career scientists within the DMG.

Connected in Germany and Internationally

Scientific exchange extends beyond disciplinary and national boundaries. The DMG is therefore actively involved in national and international networks, where it represents the interests of the mineralogical sciences. As a member of the German Federation of Geosciences (DVGeo), the European Mineralogical Union (EMU), and the International Mineralogical Association (IMA), the DMG strengthens exchange with related disciplines and the international mineralogical community.

Joint initiatives, scientific meetings, and interdisciplinary dialogue create connections beyond the DMG and help increase the visibility of mineralogical research both nationally and internationally.
