Victor Moritz Goldschmidt Award –For early career scientists in recognition ofoutstanding research conductedwithin the past five years

Award Recipients

2004 – Andrea Koschinsky

Marine geochemistry and oceanic trace metal cycling: Victor Moritz Goldschmidt Award presented to Andrea Koschinsky for research on marine sediments, hydrothermal processes, and Fe–Mn crusts.

From the laudation:

“She has been studying dissolved and particle-bound heavy metals in seawater for many years, investigating the behavior of these metals under different redox conditions, their incorporation into marine sediments, and their alteration through diagenetic processes. (...) The results of her research have found important applications in marine geochemistry, ore deposit geology, and those areas of isotope geochemistry that use ferromanganese crusts as geological archives. She also possesses exceptional organizational skills: she has participated in ten research cruises aboard the SONNE and METEOR, serving as chief scientist on one expedition and as deputy chief scientist on two others.”
