This year marked the first presentation of the Beate Mocek Award. Established in memory of the petrologist and geochemist Beate Mocek, the award is intended to support outstanding early-career female scientists in the field of mineralogy, with a particular focus on petrology and geochemistry. The first recipient of the award was Donjá Aßbichler (Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences). She qualified for the Beate Mocek Award through her excellent academic performance during her bachelor's studies, an outstanding master's thesis on the metamorphism of the eclogites of the Tauern Window, and several conference contributions. As part of her doctoral research, she is currently investigating the transport of high-field-strength elements, which in natural rocks are, for example, enriched in late-crystallizing phases within sanidinites. The prize money will support a planned field campaign to sample one of the world's very rare sanidinite occurrences on the Eslamy Peninsula in northwestern Iran, a locality that has so far received only limited scientific investigation.
