2015 – Doreen Turner und Sara Niedenzu

From deep-crustal tectonics to seafloor hydrogen generation: Beate Mocek Award presented to early-career researchers Doreen Turner and Sara Niedenzu.

In memory of the petrologist and geochemist Beate Mocek, the Beate Mocek Award was presented to the two early-career researchers Doreen Turner (University of Jena) and Sara Niedenzu (University of Bremen). The prize money supports Doreen Turner’s research project, “The Contribution of Microstructural Investigations to Understanding Tectonic Processes,” and Sara Niedenzu’s project, “Iowaite and Hydrogen.” Through the integration of mineralogical, microstructural, and macrostructural data with tectonic processes, Doreen Turner contributes to a better understanding of the formation and exhumation of high-pressure and ultra-high-pressure rocks. Sara Niedenzu investigates the formation of serpentinite and its influence on hydrogen generation within the oceanic crust.
