From the laudation:
“After studying mineralogy at the Universities of Erlangen and Karlsruhe and completing his doctorate on alkali feldspars under Professor Hans Wondratschek with highest honors (summa cum laude) in 1970, Gerd Müller pursued a highly successful career at Jenaer Glaswerk Schott & Gen., where he worked from 1970 to 1983. From 1983 to 1992, he served as Professor of Applied Mineralogy and, from 1991, also as Professor of Non-Metallic Inorganic Materials at the Technical University of Darmstadt. There, he played a pivotal role in establishing Applied Mineralogy as a vibrant field of study and was instrumental in developing both the Department and the Materials Science degree program. Since 1992, Gerd Müller has served as Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research in Würzburg and has held the Chair of Silicate Chemistry at the University of Würzburg. (...)
By awarding the Georg Agricola Medal, the German Mineralogical Society honors an imaginative scientist, an outstanding university teacher, and an exceptional organizer in both industry and academia.”
