Abraham Gottlob Werner Medal –For outstanding scientific achievements

Medal Recipients

2007 – Herbert Kroll

The German Mineralogical Society awards the Abraham Gottlob Werner Silver Medal to Professor Dr. Herbert Kroll in recognition of his fundamental research and contributions to the understanding of solid-solution formation, crystal metrics, structure, thermodynamics, synthesis, and order–disorder behavior in model minerals, particularly those containing Al/SiO₄ tetrahedral frameworks. Feldspars, together with several other important minerals, have played a central role throughout Professor Kroll's scientific career.

Through his exceptionally precise research, Professor Herbert Kroll achieved fundamental insights into exsolution phenomena, equilibrium processes, kinetic behavior, and structural phase transformations. His studies, published in 65 original research papers, book chapters, and more than 130 conference abstracts, are regarded as pioneering contributions to mineralogy and have also had a major impact on crystallography and solid-state chemistry.
