From the laudation:
“In recognition of his outstanding scientific contributions to petrology, the Abraham Gottlob Werner Silver Medal was awarded to David Headley Green of Canberra.
David H. Green is one of the world's most distinguished modern petrologists. (...) Throughout his scientific career, he has made fundamental contributions to our understanding of melt generation and melt differentiation within the Earth. (...) He was the first to recognize that large bodies of spinel peridotite in the Earth's crust, such as the famous Lizard Peridotite, were emplaced into their host rocks as high-temperature diapirs. (...) A highlight of his collaboration with E. A. Ringwood, and a landmark in magmatic petrology that remains influential today, was their classic paper on the origin of basaltic magmas, published in Contributions to Mineralogy and Petrology. (...) In addition to his outstanding scientific achievements, the German Mineralogical Society also honors David Green as an inspiring academic teacher. Several younger petrologists in Germany, who now hold prominent positions at German universities, had the privilege of being among his students.”
