Annual Meeting of the DMG Sections Geochemistry and Petrology & Petrophysics 2019 in Heidelberg

Recap of the 2019 joint annual meeting of the DMG sections Geochemistry and Petrology/Petrophysics at Heidelberg University, highlighting strong participation and the award winners.

The Geochemistry and Petrology/Petrophysics sections of the Deutsche Mineralogische Gesellschaft met on May 24 and 25, 2019, for their traditionally joint annual meeting at the Institute of Geosciences of Heidelberg University. Among the nearly 100 registrations from 23 different institutions, early-career researchers were particularly well represented.

Jonas Kämpf (University of Freiburg) received the award for “Best Poster” for his contribution, “Constraining K-feldspar megacryst formation in the Albtal granite: a thermodynamic modeling approach”, followed by Alexander Potrafke (University of Innsbruck) and Kathy Kuper (Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz).

Meike Fischer (University of Göttingen) won the award for “Best Oral Presentation” with her talk, “Investigating the Δ’17O variation of different lunar lithologies using high-precision oxygen isotope measurements”. Nada Abdel-Hak (GFZ Helmholtz Centre for Geosciences) and Hongpu Zhou (GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel) were awarded second and third place, respectively.
