DMG Section Meeting Petrology/Petrophysics & Geochemistry

Announcement of the 2016 joint annual meeting of the DMG sections Petrology/Petrophysics and Geochemistry in Bremen, including information on venue, schedule, costs, and registration.

On June 17 and 18 in Bremen, the time has come: in 2016, there will once again be a joint meeting of the Petrology/Petrophysics and Geochemistry sections, providing an opportunity to present research activities from both sections within a shared forum. As is tradition, the event is intended in particular as a platform for early-career scientists (Master’s students and doctoral researchers) to present their work as talks or posters.

The venue will be the Geo Building on the campus of the University of Bremen (http://www.geo.uni-bremen.de/page.php?pageid=917).

The meeting will begin on June 17 at 1:00 p.m. and is expected to conclude on June 18 at around 5:00 p.m. with the awards ceremony for presentations and posters. At 11:00 a.m. on June 17, a guided tour of the IODP core repository and the MARUM research facility will take place, to which all participants are warmly invited. In the evening of June 17, a barbecue in front of the Geo Building will provide a relaxed setting for exchanging ideas and establishing or maintaining professional contacts. After the official end of the meeting on June 18, discussions can continue in a nearby beer garden (Haus am Walde) over beer, grilled sausages, or tarte flambée.

To cover catering expenses, a participation fee of €30 will be charged. As usual, student members of the Deutsche Mineralogische Gesellschaft traveling from outside Bremen may apply for a travel grant of €50.

There are several hotels available in the vicinity of the university campus (see below). However, thanks to the excellent tram connection (line 6), accommodations in the city center are also highly recommended.

Registration is open immediately and will be accepted until May 31 via email to Jutta Ait-Majdari (jaitmajd@uni-bremen.de), using the subject line “DMG Section Meeting.” Please include the following information in your registration: name, university, email address, presentation title, preferred format (talk or poster), request for DMG travel support (yes/no), and participation in the guided tour on June 17 at 11:00 a.m. (yes/no).

We hope that many of you will make your way to Bremen and look forward to hosting this meeting in Bremen for the first time.

Best regards,

Wolfgang Bach, Wolf-Achim Kahl, Andreas Klügel, and Andreas Lüttge
