1998 – Björn Winkler

From the laudation:

“Over the past years, Professor Winkler has made pioneering contributions to our understanding of the relationship between the structure and properties of minerals. Following highly successful experimental studies on the dynamics of vibrationally independent molecules—primarily H₂O—confined within the cages or channels of host structures, using an original combination of neutron scattering, X-ray diffraction, dielectric loss measurements, and Raman spectroscopy, he turned his attention to the emerging field of computational mineralogy. Through outstanding scientific publications and exceptional initiatives, he has become one of the leading representatives of this field in Germany.”
